Media Pays Me A Visit. They liked my sign and my shirt.

KOMU, the NBC affiliate out of Columbia Missouri just paid me a visit. They wanted to interview a few McCain supporters for balance since they were here to cover the Obama Rally that is right across the street. They knew they were in the right place because of my sign, which they shot some footage of along with me wearing my favorite shirt. A lot more people are seeing my sign due to the rally, which is sweet and Obama’s going to pass within 15′ of it when his caravan comes through. It was a pain in the ass to make, but I think well worth it now. My brave neighbor let them interview her and she was great from what I heard of the interview. I will keep an eye on their web site to see if they air any of it.

A few photos.

Pre Rally Set Up. Notice the very large speakers hanging from the cranes. There are 4 of them, one at each corner of the football field. “The Ones” Voice must come from above….with reverb.

The line goes on and on and on. Good turn out.

Minota St River – Dude!

June 14th, 2008 kahall Posted in Global Warming, Springfield Missouri No Comments »

Yesterday, while eating breakfast, and since it was raining I said that I was not going to do anything all day. Well it was not to be as here in Springfield we had by my account 2 torrential downpours causing short term flooding. Even after extensive drainage improvements at the intersection of Minota, Thelma and Idlereen streets this is what it looked like.

I know, I wish it was better quality.

I only had a few minutes to shoot the vid as I was fighting the mighty flood waters, trying to keep them from entering the premises. I was not successful and spent the next 8 or 9 hours in what was probably a waste of my lower back. I am starting to realize that besides having another sump pump and hoping rainstorms like the one yesterday only occur every 100 years my efforts are pretty much futile. At least this time the carpet in my downstairs area had already been removed from the last time this happened only a few months ago. And no I do not blame this on global warming. It rained a lot in a short amount of time. Period. I have however noticed that the way the water drains from my property since the improvements to the intersection are not to my advantage. Erosion is occurring where it never did before and my sump pumps are running for a longer period of time after the storm is over. As I type this mine are still running and it is just shy of 24 hours since the storms moved on. They used to only run for 4 or 5 hours and then stop. Plans are being made to keep this from happening again.
