Muris Varajic Debuts Guitar Idol 2009 Entry

January 4th, 2009 kahall Posted in Music-Guitars No Comments »

I have only checked out a few of the other entries but Muris is going to be hard to beat with this entry. I’m not sure what the prizes are this year either, but he must really want them.

From the Guitar Idol website regarding rules:

Final Online Heat

  • The 120 victorious guitarists from Heats 1, 2 and 3 will battle for 12 places at the Live Final.
  • The Top 4 guitarists from the public vote shall be invited to perform at the Live Final.†
  • The Judges Top 8 choices shall be invited to perform at the Live Final.†
  • (ed) Then all prizes will be awarded, most likely to Muris Varajic.

The last one* is of course made up but it is really going to be tough for the judges. Having followed this guy for a few years now, by way of online guitar lessons that I just happen to know about..well he is just really impressive.

Here is the thread annoucement in the guitarmasterclass.net forum. Check it out.

Home Depot: Out of lead singers?

June 8th, 2008 kahall Posted in Music-Guitars No Comments »

Next time you go ask the orange apron where they stock the lead singers.

Three decades after the 12-year-old Tommy bought the first Boston album, the band, mourning the suicide in March last year of Brad Delp, their original frontman, heard the middle-aged father’s singing on the internet – and promptly hired him.

Boston
Boston’s myspace.

“The day before that, I’m here in Charlotte mowing my lawn, and the next day I’m rehearsing with Boston.”

This real life situation is based on fiction.

Read both stories here and here. They are slightly different.

It looks like this is really going to happen. I have my tickets already for the show in KC on 10/26. You should get yours.

New footage from Van Halen’s tour rehearsals has emerged: The band performs “Everybody Wants Some” from their September 16th run-through in Los Angeles. The Michael Anthony-free tour kicks off this Thursday in Charlotte, NC.

Heavy Metal In Baghdad

September 15th, 2007 kahall Posted in Music-Guitars No Comments »

Here is something that I am sure everyone can get behind. ACRASSICAUDA. a Heavy Metal band from Bahgdad is stuck in Syria after fleeing the country in fear for the lives. There trying to raise money to get them and one of their families some place safe.

“We want to share what we’re learned about the Iraqi people over the past year,” and that is the true essence of this film. Donning bulletproof vests and flanked by guides, the pair tell a human story of four well-spoken men in their early twenties who just want to rock out. They live for the day when they can grow their hair long. When their practice space is destroyed by a missile, one by one they escape to Syria, where the directors meet up with them again.

Read the whole thing, over at Rolling Stone. You’re going to want to scroll down about half way. The boys also have a website where you can donate and a movie that is/has premiered at the Toronto Film Festival.

Click the screen cap for moving pictures.

I don’t know, the hair already says metal to me.

Not Lame Guitar – The Carpenberger

September 11th, 2007 kahall Posted in Music-Guitars No Comments »

Having recently started playing the guitar I was slightly interested when my nephew g-man called and said he was on his way over to show me a guitar he had made. He shows up at my house with this crazy looking VH styled guitar he and his boss made out of new and old parts. At first I was not really that impressed as it looks very strange and I did not think it would actually work, but he plugged it into my guitar port and started wailing away. While I still would never trade it for my Schector C-1+ it was fun to play.
Very light and has very good tone.

Here is a better close up shot of the body.

Ted Nugent gets some up in “arms.”

August 25th, 2007 kahall Posted in Music-Guitars No Comments »

Nothing new, Ted Nugent speaks his mind. Having been to many of his shows I know he has done same at everyone I have been to with the exception of one when he was with the super group Damn Yankees. But this is being linked to all over the net and by some as bad publicity for the right in the U.S. I have been a fan of the Nuge for a long time and this is not going to change, I like his music, his politics and I love it when he goes off. I have linked to the same video at several places in the post so you can read the comments posted at each site. The Rolling Stone article title and comments are priceless. He did not threaten anyone by the way. Red, White and Blow Me!

Eww, Richards, Woods warned about burning one indoors.

August 23rd, 2007 kahall Posted in Music-Guitars No Comments »

No, they were just cigarettes but still no smoking at rock concert, by the artists, well it just seems strange to me.

On the first date, officials had to tell the band to stub out their cigarettes after the guitarists, Keith Richards and Ron Wood, performed while smoking.

Cigarette in hand, Keith Richards told the packed crowd in Greenwich, south-east London, “It’s been a long haul” and “It’s good to be back” before taking centre stage for two songs. Wood was also seen puffing on a cigarette during the sell-out concert.

Eddie Money
Yes I am a smoker, so get away from me. I have the plague and I know it so no lectures. It is hilarious that Richards and Woods can’t light up a cigarette on stage when you think about all the Rolling Stones band members legendary history with various other substances. Just one more Rocker denied.

Saturn Rocks

August 23rd, 2007 kahall Posted in Music-Guitars No Comments »

The new Saturn commercial, which I think is for the Vue has caught my ear several times in the last few weeks. I finally remembered to try and find the out where it is from or who the artist is this evening. I know others are looking for it, and so I found minute of it here. It is a band or individual (not really sure) called Soundcage and the song is called Higher. Great Riffs!

Note to advertisers, if you rock, preferably with some heavy guitar, the stop/play buttons on the PVR’s will be used.

And a hat tip to RodneyU, a fellow student at guitarmasterclass for finding part of a guitar tab (looks like the intro) if you want to try it out for yourself. I have not attempted it at all yet so if the tab is wrong, fix it so it is correct when I am ready to give it a try.

Guitar Player… On A Stick!

This is a good example of how to not get too emotional when you are playing the guitar. He does seem to have his sweeping mechanics down though..I guess.
